Falls Church, Va. — June 14, 2016 — The crew of WayMark Productions LLC returned today from a five week-long filming tour of the European Union, where they conducted 11 interviews in seven countries for their documentary “A New Standard of Care: Alternative Cancer Therapies.”
WayMark interviewed various EU medical doctors, clinicians, medical device experts, and key policymakers, including the World Health Organization in Geneva, Switzerland. WayMark’s continuing investigation into assorted alternative cancer therapies seeks out the most viable medical devices and protocols, and various opinions on why most of these therapies have been unable to achieve marketplace penetration worldwide.
WayMark’s filmmaker and president Megan S. Smith says of the filming expedition, “We learned much about the differences between the US and EU medical treatments and are gaining more insight as to why the US is far behind the EU in advancing alternative therapies,” Smith said. “While conventional medicine — largely using only chemotherapy, radiation and surgery today — should be applauded for moving towards the less invasive immunology research, there’s no good reason why alternative therapies shouldn’t be allowed to play inside the cancer therapy ‘sandbox’ with the other conventional ‘children’.”
In fact, both US and EU practitioners regularly use the term “integrative medicine” when they use alternative therapies (such as acupuncture) in conjunction with conventional, says British medical doctor Julian Kenyon. However, Smith found EU doctors are more apt to use a wider variety of therapies, such as hyperthermia, homeopathy, and resonant light.
Founded by Smith, a screenwriter/freelance writer of 13 years and now a documentary filmmaker, WayMark Productions LLC investigates areas otherwise overlooked or underreported by mainstream media. Currently concentrating on health issues such as cancer and Lyme disease, WayMark intends to broaden its mission in upcoming years to include other topics having an adverse effect on the world and its people.
A target release date for “A New Standard of Care” is set for late 2016, in time for 2017 film festivals submission. More information on WayMark Productions LLC can be found waymarkproductions.com
