B.O. and B.C.: Is There a Connection? (Personal Story)

Hello bOObs Bloggettes: I’m going to share another personal story with you: My left breast is having pain in one area and I’ve noticed that my left armpit perspires and, er, “smells” a wee more than the right. The two coincided following back-to-back Omicron infections recently. Is there a connection, I wondered? I believe so and here’s why: My left breast is of course proximal to my left armpit, and its associated lymph nodes are Read more…

BC Surgery: Are Stats in Medicine a Problem?

Hello bOObs Bloggettes: I thought I’d write a bit about something I came across in the medical literature a while back that still irks me. If you have breast cancer (BC) and are thinking about getting a surgical treatment for it (or if you’ve already had surgery), please tip toe into this blog. In fact, I’m going to start warning women that I’m about to expose something that might be downright depressing so they are Read more…

NBC News: Mammograms Missed Many BCs

Hello bOObs Bloggettes: This breaking news story is very appropriate to end Breast Cancer (BC) Awareness Month. Some of you may have seen this two days ago, but NBC Nightly News did a piece on BC screening — and it wasn’t a happy story (see link below). It just so happens that the key doctor in the film is also in my “bOObs” documentary. This breast surgeon was kind enough to take the interview a Read more…

Breast Cancer Prevention

Hello bOObs Bloggettes: NEW BLOG! As it is Breast Cancer (BC) Awareness Month, I thought perhaps I should write about some preventative steps to hopefully keep any BC at bay for women. Specifically, I’ll tell you what I do and what doctors have told me are good ideas; previous blogs have much of this in a lot more detail if your curious about one topic. Simply use the search tool: Get your breasts screened for Read more…

Can Biopsies Spread Breast Cancer? 2

Hello bOObs Bloggettes: We’re now in the second week of Breast Cancer (BC) Awareness Month. I thought this blog might be good to repost as women seem very interested in this…and it’s a very unexpected outcome. Here we go: This is another one of those topics that is little frightening to hear, but one I feel women (and men) should be aware of prior to this procedure: When women are sent for a biopsy following Read more…

BC Awareness Month: Katie Couric Diagnosis

Hello bOObs Bloggettes: Well, it’s October again and that means it’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Most of you probably heard that Katie Couric was recently diagnosed with a Stage 1A (the lowest grade) breast cancer (BC). She apparently has dense breast tissue (DBT) and was always instructed to get an ultrasound (US) in addition to her annual mammogram. She had a lumpectomy followed by treatment with tons of radiation…just in case. Katie said a few Read more…

Radiation from Medical Scans…again (2)

Hello bOObs Bloggettes: I’m reposting this blog as my family had and yet another run in with unneeded medical radiation scans this past week. This time it was a loved one of mine who took a fall. Even though the ER docs were told this person hadn’t hit his head, they somehow snuck this patient off when the family advocate wasn’t watching and…BAM! CT scan to the head, a test that contains tons of radiation. Read more…

Dense Breast Tissue Part 2 (2)

Hello bOObs Bloggettes: I’m reposting the blog on the second part of the research I did on dense breast tissue (DBT). Hope it’s helpful: Let’s continue from where we left off with the last blog on dense breast tissue and how it affects both you and your breast cancer (BC) screening. First fun fact: Women with DBT are 3 to 6 times more likely to develop BC in their lifetime. And the denser your breasts are, Read more…

Going Deeper into Dense Breast Tissue: Part I (2)

Hello bOObs Bloggettes: I always have a lot of responses to my posts on the dense breast tissue (DBT) issue, so I thought I’d repost this old blog: DBT is a HUGE consideration during breast cancer (BC) screening and one women should be well-informed about prior to screening. First know this: 90% of us have some degree of DBT. A woman’s breast density level is determined by what a radiologist sees on her mammogram’s X-ray. Read more…

Diseases and Fungus Masquerading as Cancer

Hello bOObs Bloggettes: For those of you who have recently joined us,  wanted to let you know briefly what topics I blog on: Breast cancer screening and its assorted pros/cons; alternative cancer therapies (which is what my next film investigates); and cancer as a chronic disease in general. If you’re interested in a certain topic, please let me know (see below contact) and I’ll do the best to research it and report back. Today I Read more…
