Hello bOObs Bloggettes:

Sadly, today is the thirteenth anniversary of my late husband’s death. He had contracted a non-small cell lung cancer called BAC and was gone within a year’s time. I’ve written about it in bits and pieces and don’t need to repeat the story but it was a miserable way to go. I’m sure all of you know at least one person who met this same end and wondered: Isn’t there a better way?

Short answer is: Yes. But the decision of how to treat a cancer is up to each individual patient.

Largely, while no chronic disease is pleasant to have, we are all afraid of cancer in particular because of the treatments. Boiling that down further, it’s mostly the toxic chemotherapy doctors almost always recommend to patients which frightens us the most.

The next film I’m undertaking in memory of my husband (see a previous blog also) will investigate and/or include:

— today’s Standard of Care for cancer of chemo, surgery, radiation

— alternative treatments we could be doing instead that are less- or non-toxic and therefore less disruptive to the patient’s lifestyle long-term

— conventional and non-conventional physician interviews, including oncologists and integrative docs

— patient stories who have used either conventional or alternative medicine and their experiences (some were Stage 4 cancer patients with long survival rates)

— how today’s cancer treatments became the Standard of Care of use by doctors

— ways to prevent getting cancer in the first place

— how a patient’s cancer journey could be filled with hope versus dread by using alternative therapies (again, understanding that everyone is on their own particular journey and it’s their choice in the end)

Through this next film, I simply wanted to give people awareness of what treatments are out there, what to expect with a cancer diagnosis, and how to take another road if they feel it’s appropriate for them. Some are quite comfortable with following medicine’s White Coat no matter what; my husband and many of my friends were like this. But in the end, none of them are still alive today. That’s what I set out seven years ago to do: to try and help change how people view cancer and its treatments via my upcoming educational documentary, “A New Standard of Care: Alternative Cancer Therapies.”

Blog at you soon, thanks for reading and helping to spread the word!  (Please see the “share” links below.)  And we’d love to hear comments from you! (see below as well)

Stay healthy,

Megan

I really enjoy your blog posts. I do think that alternative cancer treatments is a huge undertaking. I have watched and absorbed so much of it from Chris Beat Cancer to The Truth About Cancer. I wish I had seen some of these things before I got DCIS myself, had my breasts removed and 12 years later had my perfectly safe implants removed. Boy would I have made different decisions. How did you cope with a husband that wanted to do it his way? I have an ex that I tried to bring to the healthier side and it drove me crazy that he wouldn’t even try. Just kept doing the same unhealthy things. It’s so hard to not put your ideas onto others. I’m trying to learn it and just pray for people. Have a great day!!

Hi Kimberly. Thanks for the comment and I’m glad you like my posts! Yes, I’m hoping folks will avoid making some missteps with the info I’m giving out but lord knows I have made many in medicine myself that I regret too. All you can do is learn and move on. I’m not afraid to tell people my opinion but sometimes they do close down quickly. But at least I try. It was very difficult to watch my husband go through knowing that there was a better way. But like I said in my blog, it’s an individual choice and all we can do is respect it. But I do miss him and part of me will always think that I should’ve tried harder to convince him to take another route.

Take care and thanks again, Megan
