“We are anxious to see women’s response to the film, and if it shifts the paradigm for breast cancer screening to a safer protocol.” — WayMark Productions Filmmaker Megan S. Smith, M.S.

Falls Church, Va. — July 10, 2020 — WayMark Production, LLC, wrapped up its feature-length documentary on the topic of breast cancer screening and has, along with its distributor Cinema Libre Studio, set a release date of October 6, 2020. The film, “bOObs: The War on Women’s Breasts,” will be WayMark’s first film and distributed internationally.

“We hope this documentary sheds new light on the highly controversial test of mammography,” said WayMark director and producer Megan S. Smith, M.S., “and that it gets patients, doctors, and the medical community talking about the pros and cons of this screening tool – something that is long overdue.”

Interviewed for the film, Dr. Otis Brawley, then Chief Medical and Scientific Officer of the American Cancer Society said, “mammography is a suboptimal test” and, further, “we need a better test.”

The film poses that the U.S. investigates and puts forward a potential new protocol: thermography in conjunction with ultrasound. “These two non-radiative tests used side-by-side could end in earlier detection for breast cancer, as well as increased accuracy for those women with high breast tissue density,” said Smith.

“bOObs” investigates the world of radiographic mammography and the possible replacement of this breast cancer screening tool with two other tests used side by side: thermography and ultrasound. Doctor’s divulge in the film that these latter tests are painless, more accurate than mammograms overall, and — most importantly — contain no radiation. Used in combination, these two screening tests also act as a much earlier detection tool as they see inflammation in the breast years before an actual tumor forms.

Founded by Megan S. Smith, M.S., a screenwriter of 13 years, a science/health free-lance writer, and now a documentary filmmaker, WayMark Productions LLC investigates areas otherwise overlooked or underreported by mainstream media. Currently concentrating on health issues such as cancer and Lyme disease, WayMark intends to broaden its mission in upcoming years to include other topics having an adverse effect on the world and its people.
